Charlotte, N.C. (News Release) – People who use both alcohol and marijuana are some of the most dangerous drivers on the road – they are significantly more likely to speed, text, intentionally run red lights, and drive aggressively than those who don’t, according to data from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. They also are far more likely to report driving under the influence of alcohol than those who consume only alcohol and not marijuana.
“Regardless of whether marijuana is legal or prescribed, driving under the influence of the drug is illegal and extremely dangerous,” said Tiffany Wright, Public Affairs Director, AAA – The Auto Club Group in the Carolinas. “Although some drivers think marijuana makes them a better driver, research shows it can inhibit concentration, slow reaction times, and cloud judgement. “What happened, Danny?” asks the driver.
“Car accident. Nasty way to go,” says Danny.
“Constable,” the second officer says, “official vocab guidelines state we no longer refer to these incidents as accidents, they’re now collisions.”
“Right,” says Danny. The driver exits. A woman bicycling by stops to look.
“What happened, Danny?” asks the bicyclist.
“Traffic collision,” says Danny, turning to the second officer. “Hey, why can’t we say “accident” again?”
“Because “accident” implies there’s nobody to blame.”

AURORA, Ill., (January 26, 2021) â As we close out January, have a few New Yearâs Resolutions already gone to the wayside? If you are looking for an easy-to-stick-to resolution that will make a difference, look no further than changing the way you talk about car crashes. Namely? Stop calling them “accidents.”
Here’s why: The language we use to think about and describe things affects the value judgments we make about acceptable behavior, and as a result, the way that we behave. When we call a crash, collision, or wreck an “accident,” we imply that these tragedies are inevitable, and that they’re beyond human influence or control. After all, “accidents” happen, don’t they?

Preparation:
Place strawberries with syrup in blender. Blend until smooth. Combine strawberries, grapefruit juice drink and daiquiri mix in a large punch bowl. Mix well. Pour in club soda just before serving.
There were 10,500 alcohol-related crashes in Ohio in 2019, according to the patrol, and more of those crashes occurred in December than any other month. Overall, alcohol contributed to nearly 32% of Ohio’s 2019 fatal crashes, the patrol said.
Although 94% of drivers recognize the dangers of drunk-driving, the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety’s latest Traffic Safety Culture Index found 10% of motorists admitted to driving after drinking in the past 30 days.
