UEFA have moved the Champions League football final from Turkey to Portugal, enabling fans of the two English clubs involved, Chelsea and Manchester City, to attend.
European football’s showpiece club match was set to be played at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, however due to the country being placed on the United Kingdom Government’s red list, fans would not have been able to attend.
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said that situation was not an option and so the game has been moved to the Estádio do Dragão in Porto, Portugal, to enable 6,000 supporters from each team to attend.

The UEFA Champions League final between Manchester City and Chelsea will be held at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto on 29 May.
The final had been scheduled to take place at Istanbul s Atatürk Olympic Stadium but, following the UK government’s decision to place Turkey on its red list of COVID-19 travel destinations, staging the final there would have meant that none of the clubs domestic fans would have been able to travel to the game. After a year of fans being locked out of stadiums, UEFA felt that everything needed to be done to ensure the supporters of the finalist teams could attend.
Champions League final moved to Porto due to Covid travel restrictions 1 minute read
Madrid, May 13 (EFE).- The Estadio Do Dragao in Porto will host the Champions League final between Manchester City and Chelsea on May 29.
UEFA expects the Portuguese venue to fit 6,000 supporters from each team, with a total of 12,000 tickets going on sale “as soon as possible from today.”
The clash was originally meant to be played in Istanbul’s Ataturk Stadium, but the UK government’s travel restrictions would not allow domestic fans of either English team to attend the final.
Turkey is included on the UK’s red list of Covid-19 travel destinations, which prompted UEFA to change venues when the Portuguese Football Federation offered to organize the match.
