I am devoting my regular briefing on the situation in the Middle East to the sixteenth report on the implementation of Security Council resolution 2334 (2016). The written report you have already received covers the period between 21 September and 10 December 2020. I will begin by providing an update on developments since the submission of the report to this Council.
On 15 December, the Palestinian Prime Minister and the Acting Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) launched the 2021 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP). The plan includes an appeal for USD 417 million, to help 1.8 million vulnerable people over the coming year. Estephan Salameh, the advisor to the Palestinian Prime Minister, announced Tuesday that the Palestinian Authority (PA) had submitted a formal request to the European Union to increase its annual financial aid to Palestine. Salameh told the official radio the request was submitted during the videoconference meetings of the Palestinian-European Joint Committee that took place last Monday.
The PM’s advisor mentioned that Palestine requested the EU to increase its annual financial aid, including support for the public treasury and investments in various development projects.
