Minister Podgoršek concluding a visit to Rome and Vatican

12. 12. 2020 As part of Slovenian delegation, the Minister Dr Jože Podgoršek visited the Republic of Italy and the Vatican City State on Thursday and Friday. The visit to Rome included the Minister’s activities and meetings with the leading representatives of the World Food Programme of the United Nations (UN) and of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies of the Republic of Italy. On Friday, the Minister Dr Podgoršek heard Holy Mass for the Fatherland, attended the Audience with the Holy Father, and met with the Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson. On conclusion of visit of the Slovenian delegation, a ceremony of lighting candles on a pine tree presented by Slovenia took place in the St. Peter’s Square.

Vatican-organized webinar highlights urgency of united efforts against climate change

VATICAN CITY: To commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Paris Agreement adopted in December 2015 and the upcoming Climate Ambition Summit 2020 slated for 12 December, the Vatican Covid-19 Commission and its partners, in collaboration with the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) organized a webinar on Wednesday. The online event titled “Faith, Science and Youth: A call for an ambitious climate summit” aims to highlight the need to urge governments to raise their ambition for tackling the climate emergency. It gathered global voices from faith, science and youth to discuss concrete ways to simultaneously address the ongoing Covid-19 health crisis and the climate crisis through “a just and sustainable recovery of economies and society that puts people and the planet before profit.”
