SPOKANE, Wash. Scientists have been racing to create a vaccine that help will bring an end to the COVID-19 pandemic and it turns out some of those vaccines are being made right here in Spokane.
HollisterStier is a pharmaceutical manufacturing company based in Spokane. It is the only vaccine manufacturer in Washington and has been assisting with the COVID-19 vaccine on behalf of their clients and as part of national efforts.

B.C.’s COVID-19 response and latest updates for Dec. 16
Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer, and Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, today (Dec. 16) issued the following joint statement regarding updates on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) response in British Columbia.
Today, we are reporting 640 new cases of COVID-19, including one epi-linked case, for a total of 44,103 cases in British Columbia.
There are 9,950 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. There are 362 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19, 91 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation.
Currently, 10,538 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases and a further 32,376 people who tested positive have recovered.

SPOKANE, Wash Health care providers throughout the Inland Northwest are receiving their first shipments of Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine.
Providence Health Care has received a shipment of coronavirus vaccines and will begin vaccinating its high-risk caregivers starting Friday.
On Wednesday, the Spokane Regional Health District said the county had allocated 3,900 vaccines for the first week of the Pfizer vaccine being available. As of Wednesday, it was unclear how many doses of the vaccine were in Spokane County.
On Thursday, Whitman County received it s first shipment of the vaccine. Washington State University is storing the doses in ultra-cold freezers.

Providence Health Care, which operates the Sacred Heart Medical Center campus, has seen expenses increase as revenues have declined.
While Washington state officials say the first COVID-19 vaccinations will be available to select groups of residents this month, local health care officials say there will continue to be areas of uncertainty heading into next year. In adjusting to COVID-19, Shelby Stokoe, Providence Health Care’s chief financial officer, says Providence is incurring $7 million to $8 million annually of new costs associated with the pandemic for personal protective equipment, lab testing, and increased staff and security to help maintain visitor restrictions.
21 more people die of COVID-19 in B.C. as 522 new cases confirmed
B.C. health officials announced 522 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and 21 more deaths on the same day the province rolled out its first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
