California has shattered yet another single-day record for COVID-19 deaths: 295, according to the Los Angeles Times county-by-county tally for Tuesday.
That breaks the single-day record last set Dec. 8 and repeated Friday, when 219 deaths were recorded. California is now averaging 175 COVID-19 deaths a day over the last week, a new record for the pandemic in the state.
The record for average daily deaths over a weekly period has been broken for seven consecutive days. The deadliest day of the pandemic thus far in California was fueled by record death tolls in six counties from San Diego up to the Bay Area, according to a Times analysis.

Providence Saint John’s Health Center
A mother to a newborn finally got to meet her one-month-old after beating coronavirus.
Natalhie Herrera, 35, gave birth to a baby boy in an unexpected C-section three weeks early on Nov. 11.
She never got to hold her newborn son as a result. Her child was three weeks early, and she was diagnosed with COVID-19. She was taken to Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica for treatment.
She was given oxygen and treated for a month, the hospital said.
Her baby boy was named Felipe, and as she recovered, he went to the NICU.

Dr. David Tam
Dr. David A. Tam, Beebe Healthcare president and CEO, has been appointed to the Council of Regents, the legislative body of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
The Council of Regents serves as the vital link between the organization and members by approving governance and membership regulations as well as promoting its programs, services and activities within their respective areas.
Tam will take office Saturday, March 20, prior to ACHE’s 64th Congress on Healthcare Leadership. As a regent, he will represent ACHE’s membership in Delaware.
“It is an honor to serve on the Council of Regents and represent the state of Delaware,” Tam said. “I’ve been humbled to be welcomed to the First State with open arms amid the COVID-19 pandemic and will do my best to advocate for healthcare in my adopted home state.”
