Tobias Pusch, M.D., Providence St. V’s: ‘I’ve got a lot more gray hair’ since COVID-19 began Updated 1:01 PM; By Special to The Oregonian/OregonLive I’m driven mostly by the intellectual challenge of this specialty. The diversity of infectious disease is astonishing. One needs to be an expert on infections afflicting different organ systems head to toe, from cerebral infections to endocarditis to diabetic foot infections. And one needs expertise in organisms from viruses to fungi, bacteria, flagellates, and parasites. No other specialty is branched out like this – microbiology & immunology, epidemiology, global health and travel medicine, vaccinology, tropical medicine, malariology, general ID, HIV medicine, infection control. That makes it interesting.
