FROM murder to fraud and corruption, it was a rather busy year for Mzansi’s courts.
Perhaps the biggest case that grabbed everyone’s attention this year was the arrest of Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary. The couple, along with three other accused, were arrested on charges of fraud and money laundering amounting to R102 million.
The Bushiris were granted bail by the Pretoria Magistrates Court after spending several nights at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre.
But it was what happened after they were granted bail that set many tongues wagging. Violating their bail conditions, the Bushiris managed to flee Mzansi and headed to their home country of Malawi, claiming they feared for their lives.

The perjury charges follow a High Court ruling on Mkhwebane s Bankorp report which found that she had been dishonest in her conduct surrounding the probe.
JOHANNESBURG - Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane said on Friday that she would cooperate with the National Prosecuting Authority as it pursued charges of perjury against her. As a law-abiding citizen, the Public Protector will cooperate and present herself to the court on 21 January 2021 as required and is confident that the court will clear her of any wrongdoing.
The perjury charges follow a High Court ruling on Mkhwebane s Bankorp report.

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane said on Friday that she would cooperate with the National Prosecuting Authority as it pursued charges of perjury against her.
Her spokesperson, Oupa Segalwe, has confirmed that she was served summons to appear earlier this week. As a law-abiding citizen, the Public Protector will cooperate and present herself to the court on 21 January 2021 as required and is confident that the court will clear her of any wrongdoing.

JOHANNESBURG - Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane is expected to appear in court next month - this time as an accused.
This follows a perjury complaint by Accountability Now director Paul Hoffman.
It’s understood Mkhwebane will be appearing in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on three counts of perjury after she was served with summons.
It’s being reported that the director of public prosecutions (DPP) took a decision to prosecute Mkhwebane after assessing all the evidence collected by the Hawks.
