COVID-19 case connected to St. John Community School

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has identified a positive COVID-19 case in an individual at St. John Community School in Prince Albert.
In a news release by the Prince Albert Catholic School Division on Tuesday evening the division explained that communication has been shared with the specific classrooms/cohorts, as well as the school community.
The case was not school acquired.
“The Saskatchewan Health Authority is proceeding with their assessment of the situation and all individuals deemed to be close contacts will be provided instructions.”
As is the case in all cases in the division no further information will be made available citing privacy concerns.
Prince Albert school divisions join MN-S Michif language pilot program

Last week it was announced that the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division (SRPSD) and Prince Albert Catholic School Division will be joining the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MNS) in preserving and revitalizing Michif language and culture.
Both divisions will be joining the Michif Early Learning Pilot Project (MELPP) starting in the fall of 2021.
Sask Rivers Superintendent Jennifer Hingley explained that the partnership came together because of the MN-S.
“It’s their initiative and we feel privileged to be included and brought on board,” Hingley said.
Catholic Division director of education Lorel Trumier was excited to see partnerships with the MN-S grow in the division including the recent donation of 204 Chromebooks.

According to a media release the case is not school acquired and the Prince Albert Catholic School Division wanted to reassure families that school resumed Wednesday, May 5, 2021 for in-person classes. To protect privacy, the details are not able to be discussed. The individuals impacted by this case have been notified and provided with instructions. The students and families will be receiving updates using the Edsby platform.

Christine Ruten arrived at around 4:15 a.m. and found herself seventh in line. The teacher at St. Catherine Catholic School in Prince Albert started her vaccine preparation last night purchasing gas and some snacks.
“The opportunity to be vaccinated is very important to me for several reasons,” she told me. “I teach Grade 3 and K-6 music. I have siblings, nieces, nephews, parents and grandparents that I love deeply. I view being vaccinated as a way to help protect the people that I love and the children that I have been entrusted with. And this will put me one step closer to hugging my grandparents.”
