Gunville murder case rests in hands of jury

Trial dates have been finalized for the court case surrounding the death of Albert Gunville in Feb. 2019. Judith Sasakamoose, who faces a charge of manslaughter, will be tried by a jury at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench, beginning the week of Sept. 27. On the day of the incident, police responded to a weapons call in the 1200 block of 17th St. W., where they found Gunville in critical condition. Gunville was taken to hospital but later died. Family members have described Gunville as a hard-working father who enjoyed visiting and socializing, and made time for others. Gunville grew up as one of nine siblings in the small community of Adanac Sask., near Unity.

P A murder trial takes five month break following conclusion of witness testimony

After nine days of hearing witness testimony, the Marissa Bird murder trial at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench, is taking a long break. On Friday, Madame Justice Heather MacMillan-Brown granted a five month adjournment to July 23. Essentially the reason comes to simple scheduling and when both lawyers and the justice are available to get together again. Closing arguments are expected to happen on that day, but it’s not clear if a verdict will follow. Bird, 31, is facing a charge of first degree murder in the August 2017 death of Brett Ledoux. The remains of the 25-year-old were found inside a home in the 800 block of 17th St. W.

Trial begins for final suspect in Ledoux murder case

A murder victim’s final Facebook messages were the focus of discussions Monday morning, as the trial for Marissa Bird got underway at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench. The 31-year-old represents the fourth and final suspect in the case that dates back to Aug.16, 2017, when the remains of Duane Brett Ledoux were found inside a home in the 800 block of 17th St. W. For her part, Bird has entered a not guilty plea to a charge of first degree murder. Sheena Peekeekoot, Ledoux’s sister, testified that days after learning of her brother’s death, she decided to take a look at his Facebook account and found several suspicious messages indicating Ledoux planned to go to the house for a meeting, and “show his loyalty” by receiving “a minute.”

No trial date has been set for 28-year-old Nathaniel Carrier, who faces three counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Attempted Murder. He has not entered a plea, and remains in custody to appear in Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench on February 12th. Prince Albert police were called to a home in the city last March, where they found a 56-year-old man, a 56-year-old woman, and a seven-year-old boy dead, and a five year-old girl critically injured.
