Panel recommends reforms in transport dept that can speed things up, cut clutter
The Karnataka Administrative Reforms Commission has recommended some citizen-friendly reforms in the
transport department. Once implemented,
RTO office of their choice to avail a driving licence.
This apart, all RTO offices in the City may soon become paperless. Citizens will be required to submit both physical and online applications for
RTO services, stated a recent advisory from the reforms commission.
“Applicants should be given the option of going to any RTO office, as against the recent rule to register documents in sub-registrar offices. The e-office system should be used by all RTO and transport departments for better efficiency. An appropriate amendment might be proposed by the Transport Commissioner to the Karnatak

violators, experts say

building violations in your neighbourhoods, brace yourself for Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP’s) new Act, which may be a major obstacle. It is said that the BBMP Act 2020, lacks necessary legal provisions to go after building violators. It seems, the urban development department (
UDD), has done a half-baked job.
According to the Act, zonal commissioners are given powers to issue notices to violators. However, the Act does not specify any actions to be taken to stop the violators from indulging in construction. A section of the Act includes instructions to regularise certain unlawful buildings.
