Need to extend lockdown by at least another week, say healthcare experts
A week into the lockdown, healthcare personnel have said that the caseload in hospitals has declined. This has reduced the demand for general beds. The case positivity rate has also declined over the last week. Now, there is a growing chorus from health care experts to extend the lockdown by at least another week.
On May 10, when the lockdown began, the positivity rate for the day was 31.66%. The total number of COVID-19 cases reported was 39,305 against 1.24 lakh tests. On May 16, the positivity rate for the day stood at 27.84 %, with 31,531 new cases, while the number of tests conducted was 1.13 lakh.

They have been sending SOS messages to BBMP about a shortage
While trains carrying precious life-saving cargo are arriving in Karnataka, hospitals continue to struggle to meet the demand for oxygen. Over the past few days, the civic body has been fielding SOS calls from several hospitals in the city desperate for oxygen.
At St John’s
Late Friday night, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) sent six tonnes of oxygen to St. John’s Hospital, which had over the past 10 days been stretched for oxygen supply. On Thursday, the hospital had 1,085 patients, but less than a day’s stock of oxygen. “We were desperate for oxygen supply on Friday night,” said a source.

Another 30 will be set up over the next few days, said Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Guarav Gupta on Friday. The aim is to establish such centres in all 198 wards to manage the pandemic at the local level.
How the RSS Networkâs Incessant Generation of Lies Has Actively Damaged Our Brains
Nothing positive comes out of a deliberate induction of untruths in society. All it achieves is a population of sick hearts and weak minds.

Good science, the acceptance of truth and unity alone can pull us out of the crisis that the pandemic has created for us. This is what Azim Premji, the founder of Wipro, advised the audience of the online Positivity Conference organised by the RSS on May 12.
In normal times youâd call this a platitude. But now these words sound profound. Science cannot exist without the acceptance of and quest for truth. We need science in this hour. It is not only good science that will save us but also a scientific attitude towards life and the world. In earlier times, this was known as a scientific temper.
