The country is faring well in combating the coronavirus pandemic compared to other nations, President Duterte declared Monday even though cases of infections have exceeded one million.

The President made the observation after citing the high number of people recovering from the coronavirus illness based on the report of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.
Duque was giving a report on the country’s cases of COVID-19 infections, recoveries, and deaths during a meeting with the President and other officials when Duterte remarked the health chief was the nation’s “hero” in the battle against coronavirus.

The spokesperson of Vice President Leni Robredo said on Sunday, May 2, the government should refrain from comparing its COVID-19 response to countries that are not doing well, stressing that it should look at the best practices of its Asian neighbors.
Lawyer Barry Gutierrez, who is also a legal adviser to Robredo, said the present administration should stop repeatedly comparing itself to India, which has more than a billion population.

National Security Adviser (NSA) Hermogenes Esperon Jr. challenged senators and congressmen on Saturday, May 1, to defund the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) if they want the national government’s anti-insurgency efforts to go to waste.
Esperon, vice chairperson of the NTF-ELCAC, emphasized that nothing good will come out from the calls of several lawmakers to take back the task force’s budget for the Barangay Development Program (BDP), its pet project.

PCOO: FOI can help LGUs gain thrust and better decision making

BAGUIO CITY, April 30 (PIA) - - Having a localized Freedom of Information can help local government units gain the thrust of their constituents, and as FOI users, LGUs can also have better decision making.
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Undersecretary Kris Ablan stressed this during the virtual FOI Conference for Luzon LGUs on April 28.
Ablan, in his presentation, outlined that the whole of the Executive Branch is already connected to the electronic Freedom of Information (eFOI) portal, and at present 51 LGUs already have their localized FOI.
