Britain has signed an impressive amount of trade agreements after Brexit, but the most desirable deal with the US, seen by some as the only equivalent compensation for the European single market, remains in limbo.
The UK Secretary of State for International Trade, Liz Truss, said in an interview with Bloomberg Television on Tuesday that the UK-US free trade agreement wouldn’t be signed in the near future as London remains focused on achieving the “right deal” with Washington.
ROME Italy is on a roll.
The country erupted in euphoria after the men’s national football team defeated England on penalties to win Euro 2020 late on Sunday night. But even in this football-obsessed nation, the victory was about more than sport.
For many Italians, it reflected a bigger surge in national confidence.
The triumph was the latest in a series of developments some trivial, some more serious that have dramatically lifted the national mood this year, after a horrific 2020 dominated by the pandemic.
On the political front, the appointment in February of Prime Minister Mario Draghi, the former European Central Bank chief credited with saving the euro, brought an instant boost in international credibility.

ROME, July 11 (Reuters) - Italy s former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and the founder of the co-ruling 5-Star Movement, comedian Beppe Grillo, reached an agreement on Sunday to overcome recent differences over the future of the party, paving the way for its relaunch.
The dispute between Grillo and Conte, who had agreed to take charge of the struggling party after his coalition collapsed in January, has threatened to cause problems for the national unity government led by Mario Draghi.
