DUBLIN, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Health officials have told the Irish government that tighter COVID-19 restrictions should be introduced before the end of the year, Prime Minister Micheal Martin said on Thursday.
The National Public Health Emergency Team will be recommending to government that we would bring in restrictions before the end of the year and the government will take the recommendation very seriously, Martin said in an interview on state broadcaster RTE.
He said officials were recommending restrictions on the hospitality sector and on the number of visitors people can have to their homes.

PARIS (Reuters) -President Emmanuel Macron tested positive for the coronavirus on Thursday, prompting a track-and-trace effort across Europe following numerous meetings between the French leader and EU heads of government in recent days.
Macron, who will turn 43 on Monday, is running France remotely and has gone into quarantine at the presidential retreat of La Lanterne close to the Palace of Versailles, the presidency said.
A presidential official described Macron as tired and having a cough. His wife Brigitte tested negative but was also self-isolating, staying at the Elysee palace in central Paris.

(Bloomberg) Pfizer Inc. and U.S. drug regulators are revising information for use and monitoring of the company’s Covid-19 vaccine after rare allergic reactions. The company also said it has shipped all 2.9 million doses that the U.S. government ordered this week, while governors from several states say the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has told them they will get fewer doses than planned.
California set a record for fatalities for the second consecutive day. New York state again topped 100 daily deaths, as Arizona reported the highest death toll since August. The U.S. passed 17 million total infections.
