Former car dealership turned into affordable housing

Roman Court, Birmingham Road. A former car dealership on Birmingham Road has been transformed in to affordable housing. Roman Court, a Bromsgrove District Housing Trust development (bdht), is situated on the former All Saints Garage site. The development includes 19 one-bedroom rent and shared ownership properties with each home having an allocated car parking space and cycle space. Mark Robertson, chief executive at bdht, said: “The shortfall of affordable housing across the UK is creating a national crisis, placing enormous strain on services, and having a detrimental effect on the quality of life of many people. This shortage is particularly evident in Bromsgrove, where there is an extremely long waiting list for truly reasonably priced homes.”

How to help rough sleepers in Bromsgrove this winter

BROMSGROVE residents are being urged to pick up their phone or mouse to aid any rough sleepers they see on the district s streets especially in freezing winter weather. Bromsgrove District Council is asking residents to let them know if they spot anyone sleeping rough this festive season. They can contact Streetlink online at www.streetlink.org.uk or call 0300 500 0914 or, if they suspect anyone is particularly unwell or in immediate danger on the street, call the emergency services. Streetlink help by passing through the details of rough sleepers to the Council or to an outreach service that will find the individual and contact them to offer support.

Kids bring Christmas cheer to Bromsgrove sheltered housing residents

CREATIVE pupils across Bromsgrove have helped sprinkle some Christmas magic this festive season, as part of a community initiative with social housing provider Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (bdht). Pupils and children from Meadows First School, Charford First School, Chadsgrove School, Crown Meadow School, Kirstie’s Little Helpers Nursery and Stoke Prior After School Club have come together to create colourful designs, including cards and pictures to help spread festive cheer to bdht’s sheltered housing residents. After a lonely year for many due to the Covid-19 pandemic, more than 240 residents have received the handmade cards with thoughtful messages from the children, which has helped to put smiles on faces.
