Volunteers play a vital role in our communities and National Volunteer Week is a time to celebrate and recognize their impact, and encourage volunteerism in our communities. Held annually during the third week of April, this yearâs National Volunteer Week took place April 18-24.
Many members of the Program Executive Office for Aviation workforce dedicate their time and talents outside the office to serve as volunteers, both locally and abroad. Volunteer jobs include working to save abused and neglected animals, helping out at the Huntsville Hospital gift shop, assisting local veterans, supporting hurricane relief in Honduras, or even opening up their homes for children in need.
The Program Executive Office for Aviation, working with Army Contracting Command, has awarded the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft Competitive Demonstration and Risk Reduction Phase II project agreements under the Aviation and Missile Technology Consortium Other Transaction Authority to Bell Textron Inc. and the Sikorsky-Boeing Team.
These agreements will require the project agreement holders to complete an initial preliminary design for major subsystems and the conceptual weapons system. The Army awarded Bell $195 million and Sikorsky-Boeing $189 million.
The FLRAA Project Office will conduct the CD&RR Phase II simultaneously with the source selection activities including preliminary analysis of requirements for Special Operations Command, Medevac and defense exportability features in the FLRAA aircraft.
