Singapore reacted strongly on Friday to allegations by an Indonesian anti-corruption official that the city-state has become a safe haven for graft fugitives fleeing its giant neighbor. A senior official with the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said earlier that prosecuting graft suspects in foreign jurisdictions is a daunting task, especially when they already found a safe haven in Singapore. “The only country who is not willing to sign an extradition treaty related to corruption cases is Singapore,” KPK’s deputy for enforcement Karyoto told local media in Jakarta on Tuesday.

One of the men is also accused of receiving bribes in the form of transport services. Court documents do not reveal details about either the hotel or the transport services. At the time of the alleged offences, one of the two Singaporeans, Teva Raj Palanisamy, now 69, was working as a senior director at NParks municipal landscapes division.

Teva Raj Palanisamy, 69, the former senior director of NParks’ municipal landscapes division, faces two charges. Former director of the same division Go Kau Chai Johnny, 51, faces one charge, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) said.
