‘Relief for cattle death being reviewed’ The State government is thinking of covering agriculture crops near the forests under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana, which will help enhance the compensation for crop losses caused by wild animals. Forest Minister Arvind Limbavali told the Legislative Council that the forest officials will speak to agriculture officials on whether this issue can be worked out. “Farmers have to pay just 2% of the premium amount while the rest will be equally shared between State and Central governments,” he said, The Minister also said that the current compensation of ₹10,000 for death of cattle due to attack of wild animals is being reviewed. “Under the calamity compensation, each head of cattle is given ₹30,000,” Mr. Limbavali said in his reply to a question by Congress member Veena Achaiah pertaining to three deaths reported recently due to tiger attack near Nagarahole.

Pending crop insurance claims to be paid by March-end: Raj minister

Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Lalchand Kataria said on Wednesday that the pending amount of insurance claims of farmers till 2020 would be paid by March 31 under the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme. Kataria informed the House that the state s share had also been deposited under the scheme. He said payment by insurance companies could not be made on time due to discrepancies in showing the average yield. The minister was replying to supplementary questions asked in this regard by the MLAs during the question hour. He said that the insurance claim amount would be paid in the next 10 days for rabi 2018-19 in Churu district.

Image Source: IANS News Gandhinagar, March 10 : The Gujarat government informed the state assembly on Wednesday that it will pay over Rs 1600 crore as premium to the insurance companies for crop insurance for the two-calendar year period of 2019 and 2020. During the same period, the insurance companies paid the farmers under Rs 150 crore against crop failure claims. Junagadh MLA Bhikhabhai Joshi had asked in a written question to the agriculture minister, as to how much was the premium paid to various insurance companies under the Pradhan Mantri Bima Fasal scheme for the two years till December 31, 2020. Out of that how many claims by the farmers were settled and how much money was paid to them.
