Coronavirus-hit Maharashtra economy to contract by 8% in FY21: Survey

Maharashtra s economy is expected to see an eight per cent negative growth during 2020-21 with industry and services sectors bearing the maximum brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, the Economic Survey 2021 tabled in the state Legislature on Friday said. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar tabled the survey in the state Assembly, while Minister of State for Finance Shambhuraj Desai presented it in the Council. The state s economy is expected to witness an eight per cent negative growth and it is estimated to be Rs 19,62,539 crore, the survey said. Industry and services sectorsare expected to show a negative growth of 11.3 per cent and 9 per cent respectively, it said.

Representational Image  |  Photo Credit: IANS Mumbai: According to a study done by the researchers of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IISST) on the behest of the Maharashtra Forest Department shows an increase in overall mangrove forest cover by 48.79 square km. The survey will also help to track the health of mangrove forests using real-time satellite remote sensing data. According to the study, “About 44.25 sq km of sparse mangrove is converted to dense mangrove, which is considered to be a positive change, and 16.17 sq km of dense mangrove changed to sparse indicating degrading stage.”

COVID-19 vaccination: The man was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. (Representational) Mumbai: A 45-year-old man in Maharashtra died yesterday, shortly after taking a second dose of the anti-Covid vaccine. Doctors say the cause of death is not known yet. Sukhdev Kirdat from Bhiwandi, who worked as a driver with an eye specialist, fainted in an observation room around 15 minutes after taking the second dose. The father of two was taken to the Indira Gandhi memorial hospital nearby, where he was declared dead. Doctors say the cause of death is not known yet and may be clearer after a post mortem.
