Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday sought approval for starting more vaccination centres to expedite inoculation in the state and demanded that Mumbai-based Haffkine Institute be allowed to produce the COVID-19 vaccine. According to an official statement, Thackeray raised the demand during Prime Minister Narendra Modi s interaction via video conferencing with chief ministers of some states amid the surge in COVID-19 cases.

In a virtual interaction with chief ministers over the COVID-19 pandemic situation and the ongoing vaccination drive, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed concern over the rise in cases in parts of the country and called for quick and decisive steps to stop the emerging second peak . If we do not stop it here, then a condition for a nationwide outbreak may emerge, he added.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray put forth a few requests at the meeting. He urged the Centre to permit more vaccination centres to be set up so as to speed up the inoculation drive. Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 17 (ANI): Hemant Nagrale has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Mumbai Police, replacing Param Bir Singh, announced the Maharashtra government on Wednesday
Singh has been given the responsibility of the Home Guards Department, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh informed in a tweet.
The decision came against the backdrop of the meeting between NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday. Earlier Deshmukh had said that appropriate action would be taken based on investigation agencies findings in the Antilia bomb scare case.

Mumbai: Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray against the backdrop of the arrest of city police officer Sachin Waze by the NIA over its probe into the recovery of an explosives-laden SUV near industrialist Mukesh Ambani s house.
Singh met Thackeray at the latter s official residence Varsha here on Tuesday night, sources said.
Waze, arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on March 13, was attached to the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of city police s crime branch till recently.
