Mumbai: Stateâs subsidies hover around â¹20,500 cr

Maharashtra Government has pegged subsidies at Rs 20,500 crore in 2020-21 (BE). Of the 20,500 crore, as high as Rs 7,000 crore was towards the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Shetkari Karjamukti Yojana 2019 (State Level), Rs 5,020 crore for concession in energy tariff to Agriculture Pump Consumers (General), Rs 3,000 crore for incentives under package scheme of incentives to industrial units, Rs 2,376 crore for food grain distribution and related schemes like Antyodaya Anna Yojana, Annapurna Scheme, Rs 1,654 crore for premium subsidy under Pradhanmantri Fasal Bima Yojana (State share) and Rs 1,450 crore for compensation in order to recoup losses of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation for providing concessional fares to senior citizens, students, freedom fighters.

The Committee members of the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking on Tuesday questioned the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation s (BMC) proposal of granting Rs 400 crore to the transport body in the form of loan.
To ease BEST of its financial burden, the municipal body proposed a Rs 406 crore loan to the cash-strapped transport undertaking in its 2021-22 budget. Earlier, in the 2020-21 budget, the BMC had proposed Rs 1,500 crore to the transport undertaking. However, amid the pandemic outbreak the BMC slashed the budget by Rs 500 crore.
Police reached the spot and Salve was shifted to the Rajawadi Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the same day.
The MSRTC had argued that the victim was solely negligent as he was driving on the wrong side of the bus.
It was further alleged that another speeding vehicle had dashed against the motorcycle.
The tribunal relied on the FIR and the spot panchnama and concluded that the bus driver was rash and negligent.
It also stated that the MSRTC had failed to show that Salve was responsible for any contributory negligence.
While deciding the compensation amount, the tribunal considered Salve s salary and the future prospects of the victim, after taking into account his dependents.

The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has ordered Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation to pay Rs 48.46 lakh as compensation to the kin of a conductor of the state undertaking who was hit by a bus inside a depot in Jalna, an official said on Saturday.
Conductor Prabhu Kale (47) was standing inside MSRTC s Jafrabad depot on August 31, 2018, when one of its buses dashed into him and he died while undergoing treatment for severe injuries.
The order was passed by MACT Judge FM Khwaja on Friday.
