MUMBAI: Bombay high court on Wednesday allowed Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to cut mangroves beyond a range of 150 metres for Versova-Bandra sea link. MSRDC can now cut 1,585 mangroves over 1,500 sq metres, based on an amended CRZ clearance.
The HC vacated a September 2019 interim stay after seeing a clarification issued by the Union ministry of environment and forest on CRZ clearance. The interim order restrained cutting of mangroves other than those in the 150-metre plus 50-metre radius.
MSRDC counsel Milind Sathe and Saket Mone said it was suffering a daily loss of Rs 68 lakh due to delay in execution of an important public utility project.
