Following in the footsteps of central and international boards, the Maharashtra government announced the cancellation of its class X examination on Tuesday.

MUMBAI: Amid the rising Covid cases in the state, Maharashtra government has decided to cancel class X board examination. The decision has been taken in the state cabinet meeting on Tuesday chaired by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Public health minister Rajesh Tope after the cabinet meeting said that class X exams will not be held instead all students will be promoted to class XI. However, the decision whether to conduct assessment will be taken by the school education department.

While dates of offline SSC and HSC board exams have already been declared by the state school education department, students have opposed the offline mode of exams citing COVID-19 risks as cases are increasing in Mumbai and Maharashtra.
On the other hand, Varsha Gaikwad, state school education minister of Maharashtra has repeatedly said, It is not possible to conduct SSC and HSC board theory exams via online mode. HSC board theory exams are scheduled to begin from April 23 to May 21, 2021, and SSC board theory exams will be conducted from April 29 to May 20, 2021, via offline mode.

The written examinations of HSC (Class 12) and SSC (Class 10) conducted by the Maharashtra education board will be held between April 23 and May 21 this year, an official said on Saturday.
While the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exam will be conducted between April 23 and May 21, the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam will be held between April 29 and May 20, Ashok Bhosale, secretary of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) said.
These board exams are usually held in February and March, but this year their schedule has been changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
