The Oregon Health Authority on Thursday reported 849 new confirmed or presumptive coronavirus cases and 11 more fatalities as cases and hospitalizations continued a slow downward trend.
Thursday marked the fifth day in a row with fewer than 850 cases. The positive trajectory stands in stark contrast to state modeling two weeks ago that suggested cases could rise this month.
Oregon is expected to release new modeling Friday, when Gov. Kate Brown will hold a news conference to discuss the latest in the state’s response to the pandemic.

EUGENE, Ore. Lane County Public Health held a virtual town hall Thursday night, answering questions the public had about the COVID-19 vaccine and distribution.
Officials from public health were joined by representatives from PeaceHealth, McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, the University of Oregon, Oregon Medical Group, and Eugene-Springfield Fire. The overall theme of the night boiled down to the ethics behind why the vaccination distribution process is set up the way it is.

On the same day President Joe Biden announced his long-promised national strategy for getting the COVID-19 pandemic under control, the Oregon Health Authority reported 849 new cases and 11 new virus-related deaths.
During a Jan. 21 press conference, Biden released a 189-page plan, ordered a 100-day mask mandate on federal property and interstate transportation systems and promised that 50 million Americans would receive 100 vaccination doses during his first 100 days in office.
The new Oregon figures raised the official state total to 135,973 and the death toll to 1,843.

Vaccinations given statewide top 253K
PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) There are 11 new COVID-19 related deaths in Oregon, raising the state’s death toll to 1,843, the Oregon Health Authority reported Thursday.
OHA also reported 849 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 as of 12:01 a.m. Thursday, bringing the state total to 135,973.
Vaccinations in Oregon
On Thursday, OHA reported that 14,951 new doses of COVID-19 vaccinations were added to the state immunization registry. Of this total, 8,699 vaccine doses were administered on Wednesday and 6,252 were administered on previous days but were entered into the vaccine registry on Wednesday.
Lane County Public Health and local hospitals will receive more than 12,600 new doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from the state this week, a significant boost from last week s low allotments.
It still won t be enough to vaccinate everyone in the Phase 1a category which is for health care workers and those in long-term care facilities but it will make a dent toward reaching the 30,000 people eligible in that category.
How many new doses?
The state told Lane County officials Tuesday morning they would get 4,600 doses this week, public health spokesperson Jason Davis announced during the Tuesday briefing.
Local hospitals also will get 8,025 more doses. PeaceHealth will get 4,875 doses, McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center gets 1,950 and 1,200 will go to PeaceHealth s Peace Harbor Medical Center in Florence.
