Alleged N10bn fraud: Stop the witch-hunt, PDP govs tell EFCC

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum has cautioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Committee against the alleged witch-hunt of the opposition.
The forum took exception to the recent invitation of party leaders which it said was based upon a spurious petition by a disgruntled former party member.
The governors stated these in a statement titled, ‘PDP Governors Forum warns EFCC against the witch-hunt of opposition parties,’ signed by the Director-General of the forum, CID Maduabum, in Abuja, on Saturday.
It read in part, “The recent invitation of officials of the PDP by the EFCC acting on a spurious petition by a disgruntled former member of PDP raises questions on the seriousness and impartiality of the anti-graft agency to do its work.

Nigeria was yesterday thrown into mourning, when its 21st Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, along with six senior officers and four crew members perished in an air crash in Kaduna.
Attahiru and the others were onboard Nigerian Air Force Kingair 350 from Abuja to Kaduna, ahead of todayâs passing out parade of soldiers from the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria, when the crash happened amid torrential rainfall.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep sadness over the air crash, saying the military officers would not die in vain.

The Director-General of the Progressives Governors Forum, Dr Salihu Lukman, has said a national consensus has been built on the need to restructure Nigeria, as such, there was nothing spectacular about the communique issued by the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum on the subject.
Lukman was responding to the communique issued by the PDP Governors Forum, after its May 16 meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The PDPGF had asked the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to send an executive bill to the National Assembly to restructure the country and create state police.
In response, Lukman, in a statement titled, ‘Re: PDP Governors Ibadan Resolutions,’ which he signed in Abuja, on Tuesday, accused the PDP governors of playing to the gallery.
Tambuwal, Okowa, Ugwuanyi visit Ayade over threat to defect from PDP

THREE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governors, yesterday, visited their Cross River State counterpart, Senator Ben Ayade, following his threat to defect from the party.
The governors are Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).
The governors, who came on the auspices of Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum, PDP-GF, held extensive discussion with their host, who has been complaining of injustice in PDP and threatened to decamp if not redressed.
After the discussion, which lasted about two hours inside Government House, Calabar, Governor Tambuwal, who is also the Chairman of the PDP-GF, told journalists that “discussions were fruitful, peaceful and productive with the stakeholders of Cross River PDP.
