Bengaluru The Karnataka high court, on Monday, stayed the state government’s order dropping 61 charges against ministers and the elected representatives.
“We direct that no further steps shall be taken on the basis of the order dated August 31, 2020,” the division bench, comprising Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Vishwajith Shetty, ordered.
The court ordered the government to file its objection by January 22, next year. The order was based on a petition filed by an NGO, People’s Union of Civil Liberties, challenging the government decision to withdraw prosecution of 61 cases under section 321 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Bengaluru, Dec 21 (IANS): Karnataka High Court on Monday stayed the state government s cabinet decision to drop 61 charges against its ministers and elected representatives. We direct that no further steps shall be taken on the basis of the order dated August 31, 2020, the division bench, headed by Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka, ordered.
The court also ordered the government to file its objection by January 22, 2021.

The Karnataka High Court on Monday stayed the government order dated August 31 this year dropping 61 criminal cases against Ministers and MLAs.
The division bench of Chief Justice Abhay S. Oka and Justice Vishwajith Shetty was hearing a petition filed by the People Union of Civil Liberties, Karnataka, challenging the August 31 order by which the government had decided to grant permission for the withdrawal of prosecution of 61 cases, under Section 321 of Code of Criminal Procedure.
Advocate Clifton D’Rozario, appearing for the petitioners, had argued that the decision was against the rule of law. The cases withdrawn include ones against state Law Minister JC Madhuswamy, Tourism Minister C.T. Ravi and Agriculture Minister B.C. Patil, claimed the petition.
