Tributes paid to former Mongolia NOC President Zagdsuren after death aged 63

Friday, 23 April 2021 Tributes have been paid to former President of the Mongolian National Olympic Committee (MNOC) and Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) member Demchigjav Zagdsuren, who has died from a serious illness at the age of 63. Zagdsuren served as MNOC President from 2001 until stepping down in October 2019 citing health reasons, and enjoyed a distinguished career with ANOC as a member of the organisation’s Commission, before receiving an ANOC Order of Merit in 2004. ANOC Merit Awards are handed out to individuals who in an exceptional way further or contribute to the work of the association. Zagdsuren graduated from Mongolian Medical University in 1990 after studying cardiology, and went on to serve as the Mongolian national team doctor.

Mongolia National Olympic Committee President Tuvshinbayar jailed for assault

Monday, 5 April 2021 Naidan Tüvshinbayar, President of the Mongolian National Olympic Committee (MNOC) , has been jailed for 20 days for an assault that has reportedly left the victim in a serious condition in hospital. The Khan-Uul District Court of First Instance today announced that Tüvshinbayar, who became Mongolia’s first Olympic gold medallist in 2008 when he won the men’s under-100 kilograms category in judo, would serve 20 days in custody in connection with the incident, as reported by local website Ikon. Tüvshinbayar, 36, was questioned by the Khan-Uul District Police Department on Saturday (April 3) on the grounds of causing serious damage to the health of others .
