Mattapoisett Cub Scout Pack 53, Mattapoisett Boy Scout Troop 53, Mattapoisett Woman’s Club, Mattapoisett Land Trust, Mattapoisett Tree Committee, Old Rochester Community Service-Learning Club and Old Rochester Environmental Club will be hosting a town cleanup on May 22 from 2 to 4 p.m..
Check in at Salty the Seahorse (Dunseith Gardens), to receive gloves, trash bags, and clean up location assignments. The Mattapoisett Highway Department will be picking up filled trash bags.
Cleanup locations are: Mattapoisett Neck Road, Brandt Island Road, Crystal Springs Road, Tinkham Town Road, Acushnet Road, Route 6 and Mendel Road
The rain date is May 23 at the same time.

MATTAPOISETT From daffodils blooming in public spaces to flowers at the Shipyard Park garden, many of the plants around town are a result of the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club Garden Group.
Mattapoisett Town beautification work began in the 1970s with the start of the Garden Group. The first plantings were at the Triangle, the Post Office, and Town Hall. This work has continued for more than 50 years with plantings that expanded to other locations like the Historical Society, the Town Wharf, the Mattapoisett Free Public Library, and Town Beach House window boxes.
A dogwood tree was planted at the “new” Police Station on Route 6 to honor Eleanor Ross, a former Mattapoisett and State Federation President.

MATTAPOISETT A multimillion-dollar private residence, once the home of the Silver Gull Inn, suffered severe damage in a fire on Tuesday afternoon.
The stately home at 18 Ned s Point Road has been a private residence for a number of years, and was most recently known for its beautiful gardens and was part of the Mattapoisett Women’s Club garden tours.
Fire Chief Andrew Murray told WCVB that the fire broke out in the rear exterior of one of the mansion s wings, where construction crews had been working. The flames then spread into the second floor and third floor.

MATTAPOISETT The Mattapoisett Woman’s Club is offering two $2,000 scholarship awards to Mattapoisett residents who are high school seniors graduating in June 2021.
In addition, there will be a $1,000 scholarship granted to a Mattapoisett resident who is pursuing a post-secondary degree.
Scholarship applications are available in the guidance offices of Old Rochester Regional High School, Tabor Academy, Bishop Stang High School, Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School, Bristol County Agricultural High School, and online at https://www.mattapoisettwomansclub.org/about/mattapoisett-womans-club-scholarships/
The final deadline for returning completed applications is March 31. No one will be considered after this date.
