Iowa announces grant opportunities for restaurants and bars

Author: Hollie Schlesselman Updated: 5:50 PM CST January 22, 2021 DES MOINES, Iowa Bars and restaurants impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic will be able to apply for a one-time grant through the Iowa Restaurant and Bar Relief Grant Program starting Feb. 1, Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Thursday.  The program will provide $40 million in funding for businesses that experienced a decrease in gross sales during the second and third quarters of 2020 compared to 2019 second and third quarters, according to Reynolds. 

Iowa Restaurant And Bar COVID-19 Relief Program

A new grant program was recently announced by Governor Kim Reynolds that aims to assist restaurants and bars which have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The Iowa Restaurant and Bar Relief Grant Program, which will provide $40 million in assistance, will begin taking applications on February 1st, with the deadline for submissions by February 15th. The one-time grants will offer up to $25,000 to those businesses that experienced a decrease in gross sales in the second and third quarter of 2020.  The funds will go to assist those businesses in immediate cash flow, and the awards will come at varying levels depending on the percentage of lost sales. 

Reynolds Announces Grants To Help Bars and Restaurants

Kim Reynolds on Thursday announced a grant program to help bars and restaurants hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. She also announced an expansion to the next round of vaccination eligibility to include more older adults. The Iowa Restaurant and Bar Relief Grant Program will provide one-time grants of up to $25,000 to businesses whose gross sales decreased in the second and third quarters of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. The state has allocated $40 million for the fund.
