Some of them weigh thousands of pounds and are installed using heavy equipment. Others are carried in and installed by hand.
The nine new sculptures debuting Saturday, May 8, at the Kemp Center for the Arts vary size and material, but several are steel due to its durability and resistance to the elements.
Other materials include aluminum, ceramic and blown glass. This is our 17th Annual Sculpture Garden event. It used to be an invitational exhibit and about four years ago we decided to change it to a juried exhibit. The goal with that was to expand and broaden the range of artists who were coming in for each show, said Kristine Thueson, gallery manager for the Kemp Center.

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - For future Mustangs at Midwestern State University, the price of a diploma is now coming at a slightly higher price than upperclassmen on campus.
“It’s amazing, there’s a lot of pressure on our ability to balance this budget. So, the additional funding from our students will help us and we want to have a great experience for them,” said MSU Texas Vice President of Administration and Finance, Dr. Beth Reissenweber.

A 2-year-old dies after a small plane on its way to a university graduation ceremony crashed into a Mississippi home. Three Texas residents were also killed. A National Transportation Safety Board investigator was on his way to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, about 90 miles southeast of Jackson, to look into Tuesday s accident, which resulted in a fire, according to the department.
Police and the coroner s office identified the dead as Gerry Standley, 55, of Hattiesburg; and two adults and a toddler from Wichita Falls, Texas: Louis Provenza, 67; Anna Calhoun, 23; and Harper Provenza, 2, news agencies reported.
Standley worked full-time for a paving company and was assistant pastor at his church, according to a webpage to raise money for funeral expenses and replacement of belongings lost to the fire.
His wife, Melinda, division manager for the police department s 911 center, their daughter Arrianna and grandson Eli all got out of the home with minor injuries, it said. The couple had celebrated their 22nd-anniversary last month.
A small plane has crashed into a house in Mississippi, killing one of the home’s four occupants and three Texas residents who were flying to a university graduation ceremony, authorities said.
The National Transportation Safety Board said that an investigator was on the way to the scene in Hattiesburg, about 90 miles south-east of Mississippi capital Jackson, to investigate the crash, which caused a fire.
Authorities were not aware of any distress calls from the Mitsubishi MU-2B-60 but have yet to review air traffic recordings, agency spokesman Peter Knudson said.
