The Columbia River Economic Development Council elected new members to serve on its board of directors at its annual investor celebration hosted virtually on Jan. 28. The Humane Society for Southwest Washington recently appointed two new employees to executive roles. Megan Dennis is the vice president-director of shelter operations and Dr. Lauren Overman was promoted to vice president-director of veterinary services. Dennis most recently served as the executive director at West Columbia Gorge Humane Society. Overman has worked at the Humane Society for Southwest Washington for eight years. She received a bachelor’s degree in conservational biology at Arizona State University and a veterinary medical degree at University California Davis Veterinary Medical School.

When the Griffin family brought their new dog back to their Vancouver home in April, he wasn’t quite what they had expected.
The pup, a 3-month-old rescue shipped up from a Louisiana shelter shuttered by COVID-19, wasn’t the 7-pound terrier mix in the photo who would have been just right for their small yard. He was bigger a little over 13 pounds, expected to hit 35 once fully grown and a DNA test revealed he was a high-energy combination of Siberian husky and miniature pinscher.

Two lawyers and a legal organization in Vancouver were honored at the Washington State Bar Association’s annual APEX Awards, which was hosted by Vancouver-based president of the bar association board, Kyle Sciuchetti.
