A new bill, The Puppy Protection Act, was introduced into Congress that would protect commercial breeding dogs and amend the Animal Welfare Act. U.S. Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) led a bipartisan coalition to protect puppies and puppy mills.
“It’s crucial we stand up for animals both as individuals and as a society. That means strengthening important regulations under the Animal Welfare Act to meet this goal,” Rep. Fitzpatrick said. “As a member of the congressional Animal Protection Caucus, I’m committed to ensuring our government is doing its part to promote animal welfare.”

As part of its regulatory freeze to evaluate the previous administration’s action, the Biden administration issued a temporary freeze on a rule dictating allowable poultry slaughter line speed increases. The rule in question allows establishments to increase line speeds from 140 birds per minute up to 175 bpm.

In the bold flourish of a Sharpie by the US president, the reforms passed days earlier by the US House and Senate were signed into law.
The main headlines around the bill just signed by President Donald Trump have focused on its provision of billions in much-needed Covid relief, but the massive 5000-page legislative behemoth is cause for much celebration among horse welfare advocates.
