KUALA LUMPUR: Media agencies and practitioners have been urged to help promote the artwork of Persons with Disabilities (PwD), such as those with autism, in an effort to open up greater opportunities for this group.
Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi said the media, as a medium for disseminating information, should lend support to autistic artists in promoting their talents to the world.

Qatar joins other countries today to mark the World Autism Awareness Day with an aim to make people understand and accept people with autism, foster worldwide support, and inspire the society. The 2021 World Autism Awareness Day observance will address these issues through a virtual event that will include moderated panel discussions with individuals on the autism spectrum who have themselves experienced the challenges and seen these new opportunities in the employment market.

YOUNG adults living with autism are reportedly being overlooked by prospective employers at a staggering six times the rate of their neurotypical counterparts.
The findings came this week following a study by the University of Southern Queensland, and highlight the challenges those on the spectrum regularly face while job hunting.

Sadly, it was also found that the unemployment rate of young autistic adults was more than three times the rate of people living with other disabilities.
USQ Springfield lecturer Dr Yosheen Pillay, who led the study, said transitioning from school to employment was one of the biggest challenges for a young adult with autism.
