The Austin man charged with fatally stabbing a 15-year-old boy who was trying to protect his mother from an assault pleaded not guilty to the charges Monday morning.
Jaime Arquimides Vaca, 27, pleaded not guilty in Mower County District Court to charges of second-degree murder-not premeditated, second-degree murder-while committing a felony-without intent, attempted second-degree murder-not premeditated-with intent and first-degree assault-great bodily harm.
He has been held on $500,00 conditional bail since his first court appearance on Dec. 16.

AUSTIN Each sentence became more strained for Angelina Rodriguez as she stood on stage to remember her nephew, Julio Cesar Rodriguez.
The family spoke to the more than 100 people gathered at Bandshell Community Park on Friday evening. They mourned as a community for the 15-year-old who died Tuesday from stab wounds he suffered while protecting his mother, Virginia, during an assault in their home.

AUSTIN, Minn. One person has died following what law enforcement has described as a serious assault in Austin, Minn., on Tuesday morning, Dec. 15.
Austin police and the Mower County Sheriff s Office were called around 8:50 a.m. for a report of an assault in progress.
Two people were treated on the scene and transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems Austin. Police Chief David McKichan said in a news release Tuesday evening that one of the injured people died as a result of the assault.

AUSTIN, Minn. A 27-year-old man was ordered held on $500,000 conditional bail after one person died in a stabbing Tuesday morning, Dec. 15, in Austin, Minn.
Jaime Arquimides Vaca, of Austin, is charged with:
second-degree murder not premeditated;
attempted second-degree murder not premeditated with intent;
and first-degree assault great bodily harm.
Vaca made his first appearance in court Wednesday morning, Dec. 16. Judge Jeffrey Kritzer set conditional bail at $500,000 and unconditional bail at $1 million. Vaca s next court appearance is Dec. 28.
