La Crosse County officials say overdoses on the rise
Local leaders investigating more overdose deaths than normal.

Local health leaders say they are investigating multiple deaths that may be connected to drug use.
There are three deaths are under investigation in the past two days.
The deaths are likely the result of drug overdoses according to County Medical Examiner Tim Candahal.
Both Gundersen and Mayo Clinic Health Systems are seeing an increase in overdoses as well.
“With the hospital and the ER, what they’re doing there and having some saves, this is good. That does indicate that there are some people that are making it to the ER,” said Candahl.
A Cannon Falls man is facing multiple assault charges stemming from an incident on June 14 where he barricaded himself inside an apartment building.Â
Steven Robert Varanelli, 37, was charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, fourth-degree assault-physically assaulting a police officer, fifth-degree assault, and disorderly conduct-brawling or fighting. The second-degree assault is a felony level charge.Â
According to a criminal complaint:
A Cannon Falls homeowner called police when they found Varanelli in their backyard holding a knife.Â
When confronted, Varanelli claimed the home was his and was upset after hearing the police were called.Â

A Cannon Falls police officer chased Varanelli out of the yard and toward Freeborn Manor. The door was locked, forcing the police officer to wait to gain access to the apartment building.Â

One sent to hospital after SUV/pickup collision in Dodge County
Happened Tuesday evening on Highway 218.

WESTFIELD TOWNSHIP, Minn. – One person is sent to the hospital after an SUV and a pickup truck collide in Dodge County.
It happened around 6:49 pm on Highway 218. The Minnesota State Patrol says Ryan Jeffery Hering, 31 of Blooming Prairie, was driving a pickup north on 218 when he made contact with a northbound SUV at Dodge Mower road.
Neither Hering nor his passenger were injured but the State Patrol says the driver of the SUV, a 17-year-old female, was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Rochester.
