WINONA Three cars collided in Winona Tuesday evening, causing life-threatening injuries to the driver of one of the vehicles.
Javon Nicholas Kunkel, 23, or Rochester, was driving south on Pelzer Street, approaching the intersection with U.S. Highway 61, about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday when his 2012 Hyundai Elantra entered the intersection and collided with two northbound vehicles; a 2015 Lexus RX driven by Trang Thu Thi Le, 50, of Rochester, and a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Karla Ann Winter, 45, of Winona. According to a Minnesota State Patrol report, Kunkel tested positive for alcohol in his system.
A warrant for Anderson s arrest was issued on Nov. 19, 2020. The Rochester Police Department announced Friday afternoon, March 5, 2021, that U.S. Marshals arrested Anderson at a residence in Hennepin County. According to Hennepin County jail records, members of the New Hope Police Department arrested Anderson.
Senior Assistant Olmsted County Attorney Brian Hagen said in court Tuesday morning that Anderson refused to surrender when U.S. Marshals arrived at the Hennepin County residence to arrest him and that marshals had to go in the home and found multiple firearms.
Rochester police were called about 3:20 a.m. Oct. 30, 2020, for a report of a shooting at the Villages at Essex Park. Police received a report that two people had been shot in the hallway. Police said the shooting appeared to have resulted from some type of fight or disagreement. Preliminary reports indicated that the two men and the shooter knew each other, but police were vetting that report at the time.

Two people suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds in a shooting on Rochester’s northwest side Saturday night.
Police responded to multiple reports of shots fired outside apartment buildings on 29th Place Northwest at about 11:40 p.m.
Witnesses reported hearing eight to nine gunshots, according to police reports. Police found two shooting victims one woman and one man with gunshot wounds to their legs. They were both taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys Campus.
Although witnesses on the scene confirmed hearing multiple shots, none reported to police a description of a suspect. The two victims didn’t report a suspect description, either, according to reports from the scene, said Rochester Police Lt. Jennifer Hodgman.

Capt. Casey Moilanen said Monday morning that a 26-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, both of Rochester, were outside in the parking lot when officers arrived. Both had suffered a single gunshot wounds to their legs and were taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys Campus.
