Rib Mountain dog bite victim won t need rabies shots

Wausau Daily Herald RIB MOUNTAIN - A woman who was bit by a dog Saturday will not have to get rabies shots after the dog s owner contacted the Marathon County Health Department.  The dog bit the woman in Rib Mountain on Saturday, according to the health department. The woman asked the dog s owner if the dog was up to date on its rabies shots, but she did not ask the owner s name at the time of the biting incident  The dog s owner contacted the Marathon County Health Department on Tuesday morning and said the dog was current on its rabies vaccinations, according to the news release. The health department issued a 10-day quarantine order for the dog, which is required under state law.

The older woman noticed the bernedoodle, stopped to pet it and talked to the women, according to the Health Department. When the woman put out her hand out to the second dog, health officials say it bit her. The victim quickly left to seek medical help but called out to the dog s owner and asked if the dog was up to date on its rabies. The owner said the dog was up to date on its shots, but the two did not exchange information, according to the Health Department. The Marathon County Health Department asks the owner of the dog or anyone who knows the owner to please contact its office at 715-261-1908 or Marathon County Dispatch at 715-261-1200. The information could prevent the woman from having to go through a series of rabies shots.
