Wausau shooting: Man shot in May 15 incident dies

WAUSAU – A 45-year-old man hospitalized after a shooting May 15 died Wednesday, according to the Wausau Police Department.  Police are asking the Marathon County District Attorney s Office to amend charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide previously filed against Michael L. Turner, 45, of Wausau, to first-degree intentional homicide, according to a police department news release. Marathon County Court Commissioner Douglas Bauman found Tuesday that there was enough evidence to continue the case against Turner, who is being held on a $1 million cash bond. Turner s next court appearance is scheduled for June 16.  Officers responded at 8:45 a.m. May 15 to South Fifth Avenue and West Thomas Street to a report of a shooting in the road. The victim was parked on the road in the 1000 block of Fifth Avenue when a man drove up, got out of his vehicle and shot the victim as he sat in his car, according to police.

Former D C Everest Area School District Teacher Pleads Guilty to Child Porn Charges

Credit PIXABAY.COM A former teacher with D.C. Everest Area School District in Marathon County has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Madison to producing child pornography. This is according to Timothy O’Shea, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin. Travis Greil, 39, of Wausau pleaded guilty to producing video files that depict minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct and is obscene.  Greil admitted that he used an iPad to make videos and take photos under students’ clothing, a practice called “upskirting.”  The investigation began in February 2020 when a student reported to the school liaison officer that she believed Greil had filmed up her skirt while she was standing near Greil’s desk.  

Wausau father arrested in death of 3-month-old baby

(AP) - Wausau police are recommending a reckless homicide charge against the father of a 3-month-old baby who died last week after suffering a brain injury. The infant’s parents brought the child to Aspirus Wausau Hospital on Jan. 9, authorities said. Because of the extent of the injury and age, the baby was transferred to Marshfield Children’s Hospital for specialized care. A criminal investigation was launched because of the unexplained, life-threatening brain injury. The infant died of his injuries on Thursday. The baby’s father was arrested the following day.
