TUCSON (KVOA) - Students in Sahuarita and Marana Unified School Districts started class Monday. What is making this year different is having students and teachers in the classroom.
Both school districts say they are following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control. Both districts are offering remote learning programs, but so far few students are enrolled. With most students returning to in-person learning, that makes it difficult to social distance in the classroom. The CDC calls for three feet between students. We re implementing the mitigation strategies to the greatest extent possible, making every effort, good faith effort, to be cognizant of the importance of distancing and creating separation and creating an environment that s conducive to learning, said Sahuarita Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Manuel Valenzuela.

Schools throughout Pima County will offer free summer school programs thanks to an increase in federal funds.
Marana Unified School District expanded its free summer programs, from preschool programs to high school summer recovery programs, for June and July.
âThis year, we had a tremendous opportunity to expand our programs with additional grants and Federal funding,â Assistant Superintendent Kristin Reidy said in a prepared statement. âOur teachers have really stepped up and are developing engaging activities and curriculum for students. We encourage our families to take advantage of this extended learning!â
Marana received about $4.7 million in ESSER II funds with about $1 million allocated for MUSDâs Summer Enrichment Programs, which funds staffing for teachers and support service staff across the District, as well as safety and mitigation resources, curriculum activities and resources, and professional collaboration contract hours for teachers, said d
