The controversial effort by Arizona’s GOP Senate to “audit” the 2020 election results from the state’s largest county has taken an even more shambolic turn.
The cyber contractor the Republicans hired to lead the audit was already under fire for his promotion of “Stop the Steal” conspiracy theories on his Twitter account. On Friday, it was revealed he had helped craft a document posted on Sidney Powell’s website detailing several bogus election fraud claims.
The auditor, Douglas Logan of the Florida-based firm Cyber Ninjas, defended the document in a statement provided to TPM by Senate President Karen Fann, who is leading the lawmakers’ charge towards the review.

PHOENIX (AP) Prosecutors must notify a grand jury when a defendant sends a letter outlining a defense so that jurors can decide whether to see the letter, according to an Arizona court decision.
The Court of Appeals issued its ruling Tuesday in a case involving Chung Trinh, a psychiatry practice s co-owner awaiting trial on charges of practicing medicine without a license and other crimes.
The ruling said a Maricopa County Superior Court judge rejected Trinh s request to order the grand jury to reconsider whether there was probable cause to indict Tring after prosecutors didn t disclose the existence of Trinh s letter.
Arizona attorney general files notice for execution of 2 death row inmates Lauren Castle, Arizona Republic
Two longtime inmates on Arizona s death row may soon be the first to be executed in the state since 2014.
Notices of intent to seek warrants of execution have been filed with the Arizona Supreme Court against Frank Atwood, 65, and Clarence Dixon, 65, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced Tuesday.
“Capital punishment is the law in Arizona and the appropriate response to those who commit the most shocking and vile murders,” Brnovich said in a statement. “This is about the administration of justice and ensuring the last word still belongs to the innocent victims who can no longer speak for themselves.”

The Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission unanimously selected separate Democratic and Republican law firms to serve as its legal counsel, avoiding a key pitfall that opened an irreparable rift on the commission a decade ago and set the stage for months of partisan acrimony.
After several hours of interviews, the commissioners took less than a half hour to reach an agreement on which of four firms to select. Ballard Spahr will serve as the commission’s Democratic co-counsel and Snell & Wilmer will be the Republican co-counsel.
Going into Tuesday’s meeting, the commission hadn’t made a final decision on whether to pick one firm to represent it or two firms who would be Democratic and Republican co-counsel, though the commissioners had been openly leaning toward the latter, following the precedent set by the first two AIRCs.
