Much of the Bay Area is now enduring “extreme” drought weather, according to recent meteorological data.
And with little chance of any substantial rainfall in the coming months, conditions are unlikely to improve anytime soon.
The U.S. Drought Monitor this week showed that the Bay Area had slipped into the “extreme drought” category following two consecutive dry winters.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA Cotati resident Sherry Adams saw a need: upon release, most jail inmates lack transportation, a job, possibly even a driver s license. Many lacked vehicles even before their incarceration.
Her vision was to teach classes in bicycle safety, basic maintenance and repairs to local jail inmates, then create a bike shop where inmates could learn bike repair and fix donated bikes that once restored would be given to inmates upon their release.

Three more big Bay Area water agencies are calling on residents to conserve water as drought looms in California following two consecutive extraordinarily dry winters.
Board members with both the East Bay Municipal Utility District and Sonoma Water approved proclamations Tuesday to declare drought emergencies.

After two exceptionally dry California winters, the East Bay Municipal Utility District is on the brink of declaring a stage 1 drought and asking customers to establish a district-wide voluntary water use reduction of 10 percent.
The utility district s board of directors is meeting Tuesday night and district staff members will present the 2021 Water Supply Availability and Deficiency Report and make the recommendation.
EBMUD s water supply is dependent on a series of reservoirs, aqueducts, treatment plants and distribution plants fed by Sierra snowmelt above the Mokelumne River.
