The resolution came amid a backlash mounting over Ms. Waters’ call on Saturday for protesters in Minnesota to “get more confrontational” unless Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, was found guilty of murder in the May 25 death of George Floyd.
“Every single House Democrat just voted to stand with Maxine Waters,” tweeted House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, Louisiana Republican. “They made it clear: Democrats are fine with Democrat politicians inciting violence and chaos.”
Chauvin, 45, was found guilty Tuesday on all three counts unintentional second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter after a 14-day trial in Hennepin County District Court in Minneapolis.

MINNEAPOLIS: Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted on Tuesday of murdering George Floyd, a milestone in the fraught racial history of the United States and a rebuke of law enforcement s treatment of Black Americans.

Minneapolis | President Joe Biden praised a guilty verdict in the murder trial of the former police officer Derek Chauvin, but called it a âtoo rareâ step to deliver âbasic accountabilityâ for Black Americans who have been killed during interactions with the police.
âIt was a murder in full light of day, and it ripped the blinders off for the whole world to see,â Biden said of the death of George Floyd, who died after Chauvin knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes, and whose death ignited nationwide protests. âFor so many, it feels like it took all of that for the judicial system to deliver just basic accountability.â
