Give CKD patients priority in vaccination programme February 1, 2021 KUALA LUMPUR – The government has been urged to give priority to patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in its COVID-19 vaccination programme. The call was jointly made by National Kidney Foundation chairman Datuk Dr Zaki Morad, Malaysian Society of Nephrology president Prof Dr Abdul Halim Abdul Gafor and Malaysian Society of Transplantation president Dr Rosnawati Yahya Advertisement They said this would reduce overcrowding in the Ministry of Health’s haemodialysis (HD) centres and help return some normalcy to HD centres run by private and non-governmental organisations. They said priority should be given to groups such as patients on haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, patients with functioning kidney transplants and patients with CKD stage 3-4 (pre-dialysis).

MERSING: A total of 115 volunteers have been vaccinated under the third phase of a Covid-19 clinical study involving nine hospitals in five states. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said that they were the earliest group from 3,000 volunteers comprising individuals above the age of 18 years who met the stipulated conditions and criteria. He said the hospitals used as the sites for the study under the supervision of the Institute of Clinical Research were Ampang Hospital and Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor; Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital and Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Kedah; Penang Hospital and Seberang Jaya Hospital in Penang; Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital and Taiping Hospital in Perak; and the Sarawak General Hospital.

Covid-19 vaccine: 62 volunteers become first batch to receive jabs

SUNGAI PETANI (Jan 30): The country’s first batch of 62 volunteers received their jabs for the Covid-19 vaccine phase three clinical trials at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) here today. HSAH Clinical Research Centre (CRC) head Dr SL Vijaya Kumar said the volunteers were from various backgrounds, aged 18 and above and healthy. “We have targeted 375 volunteers for the trials and this programme will be carried out in stages over a period of one month. “Each volunteer will receive two jabs. After the first jab, they will be monitored each week for six weeks to see if there are any adverse effects,” he told reporters at the HSAH today.
