Muda goes to court over registration as political party

The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has gone to court to be registered as an official political party.
This followed on the heels of the Registrar of Societies (ROS) rejecting Muda’s registration application via email on Jan 6.
In a separate email, the ROS also rejected Parti Pejuang Tanah Air’s (Pejuang) application to be officially registered as a political party.
Through law firm Messrs Sreenevasan, Muda filed the judicial review leave application at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Jan 12.

ROS Rejects Pejuang And MUDA s Applications To Register As Political Parties
The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has rejected the applications by both Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) and the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) to be registered as official political parties
Pejuang s lawyer Mior Nor Haidir Suhaimi said that he received a letter from the ROS on the matter on Wednesday, 6 January, following which the party has withdrawn its application for a leave in judicial review.
Last month, Pejuang secretary-general Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah filed a judicial review application to challenge the action of the ROS, which had yet to approve the party s registration.
