KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 Former finance minister Lim Guan Eng has said the Perikatan Nasional administration would be better off by engaging and listening to the people, instead of solely relying on data and technology to handle the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said the latest flip-flop on Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP), policy U-turns and double-standards in enforcement, and half-baked advice have not helped to contain the latest surge in infections.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 Damansara MP Tony Pua called for the suspension of the Hotspot Identification by Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) system, citing deep flaws in the current system.
He said that malls and supermarkets were victimised by the data provided by the MySejahtera app, which shows congregation inside such places, but the fact remains places did not contribute to large Covid-19 cases.

KUALA LUMPUR: Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) has been urged to immediately suspend announcing any more information derived from the Hotspot Identification by Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) system until clear, accurate and precise basis are accompanied with the information to be released.
The call was made by three associations representing the shopping mall and retail industries nationwide in a joint statement today, namely Malaysia Shopping Malls Association (Persatuan Pengurusan Kompleks Malaysia) (PPK), Malaysia Retailers Association (MRA) and Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA).
“We believe that in view of the inaccurate information on the hotspot listing, this call to close for sanitisation is premature and will cause irreversible damage to perception and business recovery and survival.
Malaysia has banned all inter-district and inter-state travel from today, after closing high-risk premises including major malls yesterday as it battles a surge of Covid-19 cases threatening to overwhelm its healthcare system.
Initially implemented only in areas under the strict movement control order, the inter-district travel ban will apply nationwide from today until June 6.
Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said such travel will be allowed only with police permission, while social functions by the public and private sectors are also banned during this period.
This is the first time that inter-district travel curbs and a ban on gatherings have been imposed nationwide since March last year.
