Multnomah County Health officials urge residents to temporarily leave the Rosemont Court apartments after Legionnaire s Disease killed one person and hospitalized four others.
The Health Department notified more than 100 residents at the apartments on North Dekum Street of concerns about the water system after multiple people became ill with pneumonia. The Health Department is working with Northwest Housing Alternatives which owns Rosemont Court to temporarily relocate residents and ensure proper cleaning of the building plumbing system to remove any remaining Legionella bacteria. The bacteria is found naturally in fresh water, but can cause health problems if it gets into a building’s water supply.

MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Oregon (KPTV) Residents at a senior home in North Portland were urged to temporarily leave following an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease on Monday.
Multnomah County Health Department said four residents at Rosemont Court located at 597 North Dekum Street had been hospitalized, and one has died.
On Monday, health officials notified more than 100 people living in the building were notified of concerns about the water system after multiple people became ill with pneumonia.
Northwest Housing Alternatives, which owns Rosemont Court, is working with the health department to relocate residents while crews work to remove any remaining Legionnaires’ bacteria.
