Chief Minister stresses on creating infrastructure like setting up of charging stations
To encourage usage of electric vehicles, the Gujarat government on Tuesday announced a four-year ₹870-crore policy to provide subsidy on the purchase of non-polluting battery-powered vehicles in the state.
A subsidy of up to ₹20,000 on electric two-wheelers, ₹50,000 on electric three-wheelers and ₹1,50,000 on electric four-wheelers will be provided. The incentives are similar to those offered by Bihar but higher than Delhi, Maharashtra and Kerala.
The policy was announced by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani who stressed on creating necessary infrastructure like setting up of charging stations to encourage people to switch from conventional vehicles using fossil fuel to battery-powered vehicles which drastically help in improving clean air in the cities.

Limited mobility impacts segment
The Covid 19 pandemic has severely affected domestic sales in the three-wheeler auto segment. According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), domestic sales for three-wheelers are almost at a two-decade low. Sales in 2020-2021 were below the domestic sales in the 2002-2003. Experts suggest that Covid 19, and consequent lockdowns impacted micro-mobility of people creating a negative impact on the rickshaw industry, which is the largest customer segment in this space.
The three-wheeler segment is made of two categories: the passenger segment and the cargo segment. The decline in overall numbers is largely due to a decline in sales in passenger vehicle segment. According to global analytics company, Crisil, 82 per cent of the sales in this segment are in passenger vehicles while 9 per cent are in the cargo segment.
A Rough Ride
Once the leader in SUVs, Mahindra has lost its crown. The company is resetting its gameplan to stay clear of me-too products, replacing them with vehicles intrinsic to its DNA. Can it rise again?
The new decade was barely a couple of hours old when India s utility vehicle major Mahindra and Mahindra and US carmaker Ford decided to put off their joint-venture plans. The two companies had been trying to cobble together a wide-ranging partnership since October 2019 that would have seen Ford exit the Indian market, leaving its assets in the JV with Mahindra. For a variety of reasons it had looked like a win-win deal. Ford would have benefitted from Mahindra s marketing pull and frugal vendor development strategy, while the latter would get access to the much-needed technology for the present (gasoline) and the future (electric). The two companies blamed the pandemic and the altered market dynamics for the parting of ways.
