Teachers in Montgomery County vote ‘no confidence’ in reopening plan Donna St. George Montgomery County teachers voted “no confidence” in their school system’s plan for reopening in March, demanding that employees get the chance to be vaccinated first and pushing for more staffing, and a “coherent” contact tracing and testing program. The vote followed an emergency meeting Monday of the representative assembly of the Montgomery County Education Association, which represents teachers and other educators in Maryland’s largest school system. More than 1,000 members attended, an unprecedented number, said the union’s president, Christopher Lloyd. Teachers Vote No Confidence on Return to School Plans; Superintendent Is ‘Perplexed’ Elected worksite representatives from the Montgomery County Education Association “overwhelmingly passed a resolution stating a lack of confidence” with Montgomery County Public Schools Board of Education’s unanimous vote to return to the classroom beginning in March. MCEA also asked for a meeting with the BOE. In the resolution, the teachers union called MCPS’ plans inadequate and demanded that all school employees have the opportunity to get vaccinated before returning to the buildings. The resolution also asks that a “coherent” contract tracing weekly diagnostic testing plans be put in place before anyone returns to the classroom.
