The decline is measured by the city s annual homeless census, which offers a one-day snapshot of those without shelter. This year s census, released Tuesday, was conducted on Jan. 27. There is, however, bad news: The number of households where someone fled domestic violence doubled, from 24 cases to 48 cases.

The concept may have been thought of before, but a pair of Westborough men followed through on it. Now, because of that effort, a charitable organization is $30,635 the better for it. And so are many homeless men and women who will benefit from the experience of John Bogaert and his friend, Scott Henderson, both 51, who spent A Night in the Cold (all day and night, really) beginning at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, until 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28.
